In autumn 2023, followi ng the instalment of the first Distinguished Fellow of the Anthropoce ne, Dr. Sjoerd J. Kluiving, a lecture series with expert speakers cov ering the Anthropocene is programmed.
During the lecture serie s 'What is the Anthropocene? - Exploring transdisciplinary collaborat ion for sustainable change', speakers and participants will discuss h ow interdisciplinary research can contribute to challenges of the pla netary poly crisis that are part of what scientists are debating is t he Anthropocene. Each lecture consists of two expert presentations wh ich will be followed by discussion and is open to anyone at VU and be yond.
On 14 November, we will close the lecture series with a session on the new economy:
The society of the Anthropocene w ill move forward along the pathway of the current economy of which we can question whether it is causing or solving the poly crisis of the Anthropocene. In this final lecture alternative economy scenarios ar e presented, such as regenerative, circular and degrowth economies th at will be compared and discussed with the neoliberal capitalist syst em that is (still) governing our economy today.
In addition, tr ansdisciplinary workshops on the road to the COP 28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, are organised, you can find them . During these work shops, stories for the days of COP28 will be developed by connecting science, human health, art and activism; the Netherlands and United A rab Emirates; the Global North and Global South.
