In autumn 2023, followi ng the instalment of the first Distinguished Fellow of the Anthropoce ne, Dr. Sjoerd J. Kluiving, a lecture series with expert speakers cov ering the Anthropocene is programmed.

During the lecture serie s 'What is the Anthropocene? - Exploring transdisciplinary collaborat ion for sustainable change', speakers and participants will discuss h ow interdisciplinary research can contribute to challenges of the pla netary poly crisis that are part of what scientists are debating is t he Anthropocene. Each lecture consists of two expert presentations wh ich will be followed by discussion and is open to anyone at VU and be yond.

On 31 October, we will into the relationship between h ealth and justice in the Anthropocene:

What is the relationship between health, ethics and law in the Anthropocene, and how do these three academic domains collaborate to achieve an improved understand ing? What effect do human rights have on a healthy and safe environme nt? Knowledge about law, research integrity and ethical reflection sk ills are essential for studying human health in the Anthropocene. Dur ing this lecture, we will discuss inequalities and inequities as rega rds to health, and how the climate crisis is a lens on those inequali ties.

In addition to the lecture series, transdisciplinary work shops on the road to the COP 28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, are o rganised, you can find them here. During these workshops, stories for t he days of COP28 will be developed by connecting science, human healt h, art and activism; the Netherlands and United Arab Emirates; the Gl obal North and Global South. 

All events and the Fellowshi p of the Anthropocene are coordinated by the Amsterdam Sustainability Institute, all events are free and open to anyone interested.
