In addition, language models have improved with an unprecedented speed. “The entire AI research field finds itself in the middle of a tempest.”
Van Harmelen is not happy about the AI hype and Altman’s “unrealistic” expectations.Constant expansion of energy consuming data centres is not right.
Chat GPT’s Birthday party tastes bitter sweet, says van Harmelen. OpenAI outpaced everyone by launching ChatGPT but also consciously took risks.
“The company has an aggressive commercial strategy to sell its technology, while it remains unclear what the implications are,” he says “If this was a pharmaceutical company, something like that would not be tolerated."
