Requesting facilities

Last updated on 19 March 2025
Do you need a facility due to a disability? Then read on how to apply for it.

Applying for a facility is done in 2 steps:

Step 1: Register your disability.

During your registration in Studielink you can indicate if you have a disability. You can also indicate which facility you need. Upload a recent medical certificate issued by a BIG-certified health care provider or GZ-psychologist.

If you did not register your disability during your registration, you can do so later.

Step 2. Make an appointment with your faculty study advisor.

Discuss your support request with your student advisor. Together with the student advisor, explore what you need to successfully complete your studies. The study advisor will let you know what is available. You will be notified by email whether your facility has been granted.

Please note:

  • Do you need a facility to take exams? Make sure you submit your request no later than three weeks before the start of the examination period (this applies to step 1 and step 2).
  • Have you requested extra time and uploaded a dyslexia statement or ADHD statement? Then an appointment with the study advisor is not necessary.

Questions on registering disabilities & applying for facilities

  • Where can I see if a facility has been granted?

In your student dashboard, you can see which facility has been granted. Go to vu.nl and log in with your VU-net ID. Now you are in your dashboard. Click on monitor (logo binoculars) and click on personal data.

Is there any uncertainty about the allocation of your provision? Contact your student advisor.

  • My request for a remedy has been rejected and I disagree. Is there anything else I can do?

If you disagree with a rejection of a provision, you can lodge an objection with the examination board. You can then appeal to the Examination Appeals Board (CBE) if it is an examination facility. Or to the faculty board if it is a teaching facility. Discuss how to do this with your study advisor. View the information page on complaint, appeal and review here.

  • What is done with the registration of my disability and who can see it?

Your registration will appear in your student file and will only be used to assess the granting of facilities. Only you, the student advisor and the student dean have access to this confidential information.

  • How long is my medical certificate valid?

In case of structural/congenital disability, no validity period applies.

In case of a temporary disability (such as fractures, surgery, illness, some mental disorders), the validity period is determined by mutual agreement.

  • I cannot upload my medical certificate and get an error message.

The statement may also be emailed (in PDF) to the student advisers' mailbox. If you email a screenshot of the error message to the IT service desk via the IT Service Portal they will be able to fix the problem.

  • My medical condition has worsened, where can I turn for support?

If your medical situation worsens, you can contact the study advisor. In consultation with you, we will examine whether adjustments to the current facilities are possible. Please also inform the student advisers if you need additional facilities, or if you no longer need a facility.

  • As a secondary student, how do I report my disability?

Your disability is not automatically transmitted from other universities. You can register this yourself: Go to: .

If you need a facility, make an appointment with the study advisor of the faculty where you are taking your course. If you do not know which faculty your course belongs to, please consult the .
