With this degree under your belt, you’ll be ready for any role that involves analysing problems in social data science, offering solutions for societal issues using data, and responding to issues in a digital society. Our Research Master alumni work in a variety of roles, which you, too, will be trained for. You could, for instance, work as a researcher at an academic or applied knowledge institute, as a policy advisor or policy consultant at a government agency or consultancy firm, or as a data analyst or data strategist at an NGO.
Throughout the programme, you build your own unique profile. You receive support in curating a professional portfolio that helps you clarify what matters to you in a career, which roles align with your strengths and ambitions, and which steps will move you towards your goals.
The internship is a great way to develop your professional network, and to get real-life experience of what it’s like to work in your chosen field. Our students have interned at organisations such as the Red Cross, United Nations, Verwey-Jonker Instituut, and the City of Amsterdam, and at academic departments at VU Amsterdam, Penn State University (US), and Aarhus University (Denmark). Additionally, the programme maintains strong ties with our alumni and other societal stakeholders, and offers guest lectures by speakers from the corporate world, NGOs, government departments, and more, all of which can boost your career.
The programme’s international approach lends itself well to working abroad. Not only will you be part of an international student cohort, you will also be taught by an international team of researchers and have the opportunity to partner up with international organisations to work on societal problems.
